Leslie Glen DeHeer was born February 2, 1937 in Red Rock, Iowa. The son of Harry and Charity (Ruckman) DeHeer.
Leslie was a fork lift mechanic at Clarklift of Des Moines before starting as a welder at Van Gorp, in Pella. He retired from there in 2002. He was married to Nona McFarland for 25 years before she passed away. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He also loved to go dancing with his wife.
Leslie passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015 at his home at the age of 78 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nona; sister, Ila and his brothers, Robert, Gary and Delmar “Mort”.
Those left to cherish Leslie’s memory include his children and their spouses: Vickie (Ed) Sickler of Pleasantville, Kathy (Stretch) Wilson of Harvey, Diane (Chet) Goemaat of Knoxville, Billy (Willa) DeHeer of Knoxville, Jimmy (Joy) DeHeer of Pleasantville, Kevin (Kathy) DeHeer of Ackworth and Debbie (Bill) Glassford of Chariton; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; siblings: Leroy “Sox” DeHeer of Knoxville; Billy DeHeer of Knoxville; Phillip DeHeer of Oskaloosa; Bonnie Wilbur of Knoxville; Jean Cecil of Knoxville; Jane Shore of Knoxville; Becky Breuklander of Pella; Ina Simpson of Monroe and Carroll DeHeer of Beech and many other family members and friends.
A Funeral Service for Leslie “Bud” DeHeer, age 78 of Knoxville, will be held on Wednesday, September 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the T’lam Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to H.C.I.
