LeRoy Marion Duff was born June 29, 1922 in Stuart, Iowa the son of Harley and Edna (Downing) Duff.
LeRoy was raised in the Stuart area and following his high school graduation in 1941, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in communications for 5 years during WWII, all over the world, including the D-Day invasion. Following his honorable discharge, LeRoy attended Drake University. He received a teaching degree from Drake and taught in Avoca, Iowa. LeRoy then returned to graduate training for corrective therapy. On December27, 1953 LeRoy was united in marriage to Charlotte Elizabeth Shore at the Methodist Church in West Des Moines. LeRoy then went to work for the V.A. Hospital, in Knoxville, as a corrective therapist until his retirement in the late 1980’s.The couple lived in Knoxville before moving to Pleasantville in August of 1962. LeRoy then became a certified Golf Course Superintendent and maintained his beloved Pleasantville Golf and Country Club, which he helped to design many years earlier. Following his second retirement, LeRoy Duff made Pleasantville Baseball his life goal, keeping a stat book and traveling with the teams and coaches he loved for 15 years until 2015.
LeRoy passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age 94 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Charlotte; siblings: Zada Kennedy, Dwight Irwin Duff, Ulva Clark and Darrell Duff.
Those left to honor LeRoy’s memory include his children: Georgia Gardner (Jay) of Pleasantville and (LeRoy) David Duff of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two grandchildren: Clint and Cody Gardner; 5 great-grandchildren: Sophie, Colton, Simon, Harlow and Lucy; siblings: Joan Petro (Leo) of Texas and Richard (Vera) Duff of Adel, sister-in-laws: Alice (Darrell) Duff and Mary (Dwight) Irwin, and many other family members and friends.
Funeral services for LeRoy Duff age 94 of Pleasantville, will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mason Funeral Home. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in the Morrisburg Cemetery in Stuart, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Mason Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Pleasantville Baseball Team or to the Pleasantville Senior Center.
