Larry Eugene Heaberlin was born in rural Warren County on December 14, 1940 to James and LaVaughn (Long) Heaberlin. Larry went to meet his Lord Jesus on May 2, 2020.

Larry grew up on the family farm where he milked a herd of dairy cows. His real love of the farming was the row crops he planted and watched grow.

Larry attended school in the Beech School system until they moved to a farm South of Pleasantville. There he attended Pleasantville Community School where he graduated in 1958. He was a member of the Pleasantville Alumni Association and attended every banquet after his graduation.

He was united in marriage to Karen May (Hunter) Heaberlin on May 29, 1960 at the Pleasantville United Methodist Church. The couple settled on a farm south of Pleasantville where they raised their three daughters, Rhonda, Susan and Beth. In the mid 1980’s, Larry moved his family to western Iowa where he became the District Sales Manager for Merschman seeds. Eventually, the settled in Oakland and Larry drove a truck for Roberts Dairy. After Beth graduated from high school, Karen took a course and the couple went out over the road driving for Double S and Sunflower. Larry loved his time driving with the love of his life. Upon his retirement, Larry worked part time for Smith’s Fertilizer and Grain in Pleasantville.

Larry and Karen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Ivy United Methodist Church where their officiating Minister, Rev. Bill Miller was present. Their children threw an early celebration for their 60th anniversary two weeks prior to his passing. Their marriage was a source of pride for Larry.

Larry had many hobbies which included fishing, hunting, playing cards, all kinds of sports including sprint cars, tractor pulls, Nascar Series Racing, Iowa State basketball and football, mushroom hunting, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and gardening. Larry and Karen were members of the Circle K Square Dance Club. Larry was a charter member of the Jaycees and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and LaVaughn Heaberlin, his grandsons David Alan Scovel and Jeremy Tyler Achenbach.

Those left to mourn him and cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years, Karen, his children, Rhonda (John) Krohn of Prairie City; Susan Heaberlin of Pleasantville and Beth (Cory) Love of Macedonia; son-in-law Chris Scovel of Pleasantville; grandchildren, Denise Scovel of Prairie City, Stacy Scovel of Des Moines, Jessica Scovel of Newton, Michael Achenbach of Adair, James Love of Guthrie Center, Jennifer Love and Zayla Love both from Macedonia. Eight great-grandchildren, brother Steven (Joann) Heaberlin of Indianola, brother-in-law Richard Hunter, of Pleasantville, Gary (Janie) Fisher of Pleasantville, Barbara (Gary) Marchant of Indianola, many nieces, nephews and cousins.



A Funeral Service for Larry Heaberlin, age 79 of Macedonia will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the Mason Funeral Home, in Pleasantville, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Pleasantville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Pleasantville FFA or the American Heart Association in memory of Larry.
