Larry Aaron Conn

Larry Aaron Conn, age 88, of Pleasantville, died Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Wesley on Grand, Des Moines, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wakonda Christian Church, 3938 Fleur Drive – Des Moines, IA 50321. Visitation with refreshments will be served one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Pleasantville Cemetery.
Larry was born February 1, 1936 in Pleasantville the only child of Cash Stephen and Beulah Dabb Conn.
He attended the local schools and graduated in 1953. Larry earned college degrees from Drake University and Northern Colorado University. He studied organ with Russell Saunders (Drake) and Evan Hilty (Colorado University). Larry was a music teacher at Twin Cedars Community School for 15 years. From 1972 until 1982 Larry was Division Manager of Personnel at the Federal Reserve Bank (Des Moines Office). In 1982 he became the Director of the Webb Shadle Memorial Library located in Pleasantville and retired after 32 years.
Larry was an Organist and Pianist and served several Des Moines Churches and in particular the Wakonda Christian Church where he was a member and served as organist for 43 years. He was also Director of Music for 25 years and was honored by being named Deacon Emeritus in 1978, and organist Emeritus in 2015. Larry was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce in 2015.
He inherited the love of gardening from his mother and father and continued to maintain vegetable and flower gardens for many years. He was a founding member of the Pleasantville Garden Club in 1989. Also he was a member of the Iowa Rose Society and the American Rose Society. One of Larry’s interests was the study of ancient civilizations. He did extensive travel to many of these sites including Mexico, Egypt, Rome, Greece, and all of Western Europe. Larry was also an avid Drake Basketball fan.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by cousins and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wakonda Christian Church or the Pleasantville Christian Church.
