Larry Lee Collins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, at 11:44 PM.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: sister, Georgia Krichau; brothers: Joe, Raymond, Rolland, Roy, Herb and a brother in infancy.
Born on February 23, 1938, in Beech, Iowa, the son of George Irl and Janie Belle (Dabb) Collins; Larry grew up in Swan, where he developed a love for the outdoors and a strong sense of community that shaped him throughout his life. Larry proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for six years. He spent 18 months stationed in Okinawa, Japan, before being sent to Washington state, where he met his beloved wife, Connie Rae Collins. Larry worked 33 years at Firestone, in Des Moines, prior to his retirement.
After returning home, Larry’s love for the outdoors flourished. He enjoyed ice fishing, woodcarving, cycling, and exploring new places, always drawn to the beauty of nature and scenic landscapes. At home, Larry took great pride in his garden and indoor plants, nurturing them with the same care he showed to his loved ones. Throughout his life, Larry always loved learning. Whether stargazing, bird watching, or picking up new hobbies, he approached everything with passion and curiosity. His love for learning kept him engaged and enthusiastic about the world around him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Connie Rae Collins, and his children, Michael Collins and Janel (Michael) Legvold. He was a proud grandfather to Christopher (Marco) Collins, Paige Legvold, Austin (Maritza) Legvold, and Avery (Adam) Henshaw, and was also blessed with several great-grandchildren. Larry’s warmth, sense of humor, and love for his family will be deeply missed. Visitation will be Tues, October 1st, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville. Graveside services, including military honors, will be at 11 am Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Spurgeon Cemetery in Pleasantville, where family and friends will gather to remember and honor him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Pleasantville Christian Church, Pleasantville Food Bank or to the Pleasantville EMS.
