Kevin Douglas Smith

Kevin Douglas Smith was born July 29, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Randall and Beverly (Westerly) Smith.
He was raised in the Pleasantville area and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1969. Following graduation, Kevin attended A.I.B. in Des Moines. He worked for several different manufacturers, the last being Glass Fabricators, Inc., in Des Moines, where he worked for 17 years. He was forced to retire early due to complications from a stroke he suffered. Kevin was a simple, easy-going man. He felt there were no strangers – just friends he hadn’t met. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spending time with family, and he especially liked family reunions.
Kevin passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Polk City Nursing Home at the age of 63 years.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1990.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Matthew Smith of Iowa City; brothers: Tracy of Middleton, Rhode Island, David of Yuma, Arizona, Keith of Marion, Iowa and Craig of Westminster, Colorado; his mother, Beverly Smith of Pleasantville and many other family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Kevin Smith, age 63, of Des Moines will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Melcher-Dallas, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Greater Iowa JDRF.
