Kenneth Douglas Thornburg

Kenneth Douglas Thornburg was born May 29, 1951 in Pleasantville, Iowa the son of Floyd and Mary Avis Polson Thornburg.
He attended Pleasantville Schools, where he excelled in basketball, football and track, and graduated in 1970. Kenny worked at A.M.F. for many years before taking a job at Firestone in Des Moines. He was a pipefitter at Firestone, retiring after 26 years of service in the fall of 2015.
In his spare time, Kenny enjoyed being outside whether he was raising his large garden, camping or just enjoying the day. He canned what he raised in the garden and loved to cook big meals for friends and family. Kenny was a very social person and made friends wherever he went.
Kenny passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 64 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Thornburg and Mary Avis Polson-Thornburg, three brothers, Loren, Frank, and Herman (Jim), and an infant sister Shirley Ann.
Those left to cherish Kenny’s memory include his children: Tina Rice of Cedar Rapids, Jeric of Pleasantville, Tiffany Keeney of Pleasantville and Colton of West Hollywood, California; 4 grandchildren; siblings: Irvy Eugene Thornburg, Rose Sharon Thornburg-Gray, Sheryll Thornburg-McDermott, Roger Keith Thornburg, Mary Louise Thornburg-Polson-Whyle, Dora Mae Thornburg-Polson-Newsom and many other family members and friends.
Kenny has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Mason Funeral Home, in Pleasantville, at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
