Kathy Hess
August 30, 1947 — November 22, 2022
Katherine Marie Hess was born August 30, 1947 in California the daughter of Howard and Lucille (Miller) Pitt.
Kathy’s family lived in California while her father was in the military. They eventually moved to Knoxville, Iowa where she attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1965. During high school she worked at Pinky’s as a car hop. Kathy eventually went to work for EMC Insurance in Des Moines as an underwriter. On February 10, 1996 Kathy was united in marriage John Hess. They enjoyed 27 years together. She retired from EMC after 32 years of service. In her retirement, Kathy worked for H&R Block in Knoxville for a few years.
In her spare time, Kathy enjoyed making baby blankets and quilts, crocheting and collecting teddy bears. She and John also took great pleasure in making candy during the Christmas Season to share with family and friends.
Kathy passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at her home at the age of 75 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Lucille Pitt.
Those left to cherish Kathy’s memory include her husband, John; children: Mishelle (Mark) Gerber and Howard (Susan) Potter; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings: Patty Miller, Carolyn (Bill) Hatch and Dennis (Pam) Pitt and many other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
