Kathryn Louise “Kate” Beary was born October 26, 1936 in Russell, Iowa the daughter of John and Leona (Lemonds) Kasper.
She was raised in rural Melrose, Iowa where she graduated from high school with the class of 1954. On November 5, 1955 Kate was united in marriage to Richard Michael Beary at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Weller, Iowa. The couple first made their home in Des Moines, where she worked at Bell Telephone Co., before moving to Knoxville in 1962. Kate was a homemaker while raising her six children. She also worked part-time at McCord’s Motor Lodge and the VA canteen, both in Knoxville. After her own kids were grown, she provided childcare for several families, as well as her own granddaughters. She was known to them all as “Grandma Kate”.
Throughout the years, Kate enjoyed fishing, bowling, garage saleing, traveling and trips to the casino. She and Richard enjoyed card games with friends and neighbors; the game of Rook was a favorite. She rarely missed watching her kids and grandkids in their sports activities and school events. Watching the Cubs, Royals, Chiefs and Hawkeyes was also an enjoyable pastime in later years. Kate’s greatest joy, however, was just spending time with family.
Kate passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024 at the age of 88 years, her family by her side.
In addition to her parents, Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her siblings: Jackie Kasper, Jim Kasper and Mary Jo Goheen; and her nephew Scott Goheen.
