Karen Beth Wilson was born February 23, 1947 in Pella, Iowa. She and her siblings were raised by their maternal grandparents, Marion and Betche “Betty” Schippers. They were raised in a very loving, caring and Christian home from pre-school through adulthood.

Karen was raised in Pella, graduating from Pella High in 1965. She then attended nursing school. After obtaining her L.P.N. degree, Karen work at the Pella Hospital for 10 years and then at the Knoxville V.A. for 20 years prior to her retirement. Karen became a life member of the John Myers Post #3519 in 1985. She served the organization in local, district and state offices. Karen was instrumental in placing the white crosses on the graves of veterans at Graceland Cemetery. She had a great interest in seeing our veterans buried in rural cemeteries received flags on their graves.

In her spare time, Karen enjoyed gardening and camping and watching St. Louis Cardinals games. Karen loved motorcycle riding, playing cards with friends and watching Wheel of Fortune. She also enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds. Her greatest joy was her family and watching her grandchildren grow up and going to all their activities.

Karen passed away Monday, August 12, 2024 at Park Ridge Specialty Care, in Pleasant Hill, at the age of 77 years.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Marion and Betty, husband, Robert F. Wilson; brother, Marvin Van Zee and step-son Clifford Wilson. May they rest in peace.

Those left to cherish Karen’s memory include her son, Tim VerMeer; grandchildren: Keith VerMeer and Charlie VerMeer; sister, Joyce Jones; brother, Alvin Van Zee and many other family members and friends.

Karen dearly loved her precious grandchildren. She gives special words of gratitude to her beloved son and caretaker, Tim.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary or American Legion Baty Tucker Post #168.
