Joseph Harry Conway was born September 21, 1937 in Pleasantville, Iowa the son of Harry James and Bernice Mary (Wren) Conway.
He was raised in Pleasantville, graduating with the Class of 1958. Joe worked for Shivvers & Ward, driving a livestock truck. He loved hauling hogs and had a lifetime of stories he loved to tell of his truck driving days. Joe later worked for the Iowa D.O.T. before taking a job at Hormel in Knoxville. He was the seventh person hired as Hormel built a new plant in Knoxville. Joe was united in marriage to Pauline Lenger in 1965. To this union three children: Steve, Anne Marie, and Michael were born. Joe retired from Hormel in 1998. In 2015 Joe left Knoxville to live with Anne Marie and later with Mike as his health declined.
In his spare time, Joe enjoyed going to coffee and visiting with old friends and making new friends. He always read the Knoxville paper and the Iowa Farmer to keep up on local events. Joe also kept track of all the local farm ground sales. Joe’s pride and joy was his family; he cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Joe passed away Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the age of 85 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Bernice; wife, Pauline in 2000; brother, Bob in 1999 and an infant grandson, Jeremy Wadle.
Those left to honor Joe’s memory include his children: Steve; Anne (Michael) Wadle and their children: Kaden (Kristin) Wadle (Jett and Isla) and Faith Wadle; Mike (Julie) Conway and their children: Maggie (Andrew) Brighton (Jax), Mary Kate Conway and Jaden Zimmerman; sister, Mary Stahowick and many other family members and friends.
