John Wayne Rodda
July 21, 1947 — April 12, 2022
John Wayne Rodda, age 74, of Pleasantville, Iowa, died on April 12, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family. On July 21, 1947, John was born to Ivan and Vera (King) Rodda in Pleasantville, where he was raised as the youngest of 5 children.
John graduated from Pleasantville High School with the class of 1965. He was a member of PHS Alumni. John left for the United States Navy in 1965 and served in Vietnam as a Machinist Mate, 2nd Class. He returned home in 1969. He went to work at Drake University in the Physical Plant as a boiler technician until he retired in 2007. He spent 37 years making great friends at Drake.
John was united in marriage on October 11, 1986, to Mary Leona (Robbins) Rodda. They lived in Pleasantville their whole marriage, where they joined together a wonderful family with six children.
After John retired, he and Mary enjoyed spending winters in Texas with Chuck and Nancy Robbins. John and Chuck would spend many hours fishing; they also loved to try to beat Mary and Nancy in dominoes. The four of them continued their weekly dominoes games until last week. They made great friends and memories in Texas. John also enjoyed camping, hunting, golfing, casinos, and Texas Hold’Em, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. John was a caring man who never met a stranger. He was very competitive, and if you ever played anything against him, you may have heard a few choice words, but the best thing to ever come out of his mouth was "I Love You.” He made sure to let every single person he loved know he loved them and loved them hard. John brought so much joy to everyone’s life he touched.
John was preceded in death by his first wife, Celeste (Morton) Rodda, a son Charles (Cap) Wimmer, three granddaughters, Sabrina, Maleah, and Amber, his parents Vera and Glen Clark and Ivan and Mary Rodda, a sister Geraldine Kain, his Mother and father-in-law, Charles and Mary Robbins.
Those left to honor John's memory are his beloved wife of 35 years, Mary, his children- Jonette (Chad) Scandrett, David Rodda (Cindy), Steve Wimmer, Marg Brent, and Bill Wimmer. Siblings- Grace Rodda, Art (Jean) Rodda, and Alice Sels. His grandchildren- Kimberly (Chris), Jonny (Katie), Jacob (Monette), Drew, Morgan (Dylan), David (Shannon), Peter, Raegan, Taelor (Eric), Brad, Brett, Brianna, Kayn, Shayna, Michael, and Raymond.
John leaves behind 21 great-grandchildren, which became the light of his life. Many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
