Jerry Reed Irving was born March 21, 1941 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Varel F. Irving and Velta Mae (Crandall) Irving.
Jerry was raised in Dallas Township and as a young man he worked for the local sale barn. He then worked at a cement block factory before taking a job with the Marion County Road Department. He first drove a truck for the county and then a maintainer. He retired after 42 years. During part of his retirement, Jerry worked for the Iowa D.O.T. road crew.
On June 9, 1961 Jerry was united in marriage to Julie Dygert at the Columbia United Methodist Church. The couple raised two children, Harold and Greg. Jerry and Julie worked together on many projects including: shingling, tearing an old drive-in theater down and attending storage auctions, just to name a few. The couple also loved to square dance.
In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed mushroom hunting, carpentry and tending his lawn and flowers. He loved to visit with his neighbors and was always willing to lend them a helping hand.
Jerry passed away Friday, May 7, 2021 at Accura of Pleasantville at the age of 80 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Miles, Bob, Melvin, Bill, Anna Mae Sweeney, Tom, Jim and John.
Those left to honor Jerry’s memory include his wife, Julie; children: Harold (Jeff) Fiagle and Greg (Gayle) Irving; grandchildren: Holden and Ashley; great-grandchildren: Miracle and Juliya and many other family members and friends.
A Funeral Service for Jerry Irving, age 80 of Pleasantville, will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Activity Fund at Accura of Pleasantville.
