Jerry Leon Briggs, Sr. was born August 2, 1950 in Knoxville, Iowa the son of Harold Vernon Briggs and Mary Lucille (Wickert) Briggs.
Jerry attended Chariton schools and as a young man he worked at the V.A. He was a truck driver most of his life, and had worked for McCormick Feed & Grain and ran the garbage service in Harvey for 38 years. Jerry also repaired lawn mowers and other small engines. On October 11, 1971 Jerry was united in marriage to Martha Baker, the couple has made Harvey their home for most of their married life.
In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed fishing and raising a vegetable garden. He loved to cook and always made more than enough food to entertain friends and family. Jerry’s greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Jerry passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 68 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Sam and Ida Baker.
Those left to cherish Jerry’s memory include his wife, Martha; children: Linda Forschler (Pat Clark), Brenda (Tony) Sharp, Jerry Briggs, Jr., Christine Briggs (Chad Pierce), Joe Briggs and Jaimie (Scott) Robinson; 9 grandchildren; siblings: Roy Briggs, Elaine Brockman, Lewis Briggs, Gerald Briggs, Arlene Corwin, Janice Hunter, Alberta Gibson, Wilma Bost and Merle Dean Briggs and many other family members and friends.
A funeral service for Jerry Briggs, age 68 of Harvey, will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the family.
