Jennie Lea Garr was born April 14, 1947 in Centerville, Iowa the daughter of Harold B. Davis and Velma Irene (Covington) Davis.
She was raised in the Moulton, Iowa area and graduated from Moulton High School in 1965. On October 10, 1965 Jennie was united in marriage to Lawrence Ray Garr. The couple first made their home in Oxnard, California and lived in various locations before moving to Pleasantville in 1984. Jennie had worked for McGraw-Edison in Centerville, where she made elements for toasters, the bowling alleys in Monroe and Colfax and later in the Younkers mail room. During her retirement she cleaned houses.
In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, puzzle books, and shopping. Jennie loved to decorate for all holidays, especially Christmas and the 4th of July. She and Larry would spend weeks before a holiday decorating. Jennie also had an extensive collection of angels, cherubs and snow globes. One of her greatest joys was attending her grandson’s games. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Jennie passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at her home, in Pleasantville, at the age of 70 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Larry in 2016 and her brother, Larry “Doc” Davis.
Those left to cherish Jennie’s memory include her children: Kimberly Garr, Terri (Hayes) Finnegan, Kerina (John) Haberling and Randall (Sara Sampson) Garr; 8 grandchildren: Tiffany Johns, John Robert Haberling, Jr., Ashley Peek, Charlie Finnegan, James Haberling, Kody Garr, Jaxon Garr and Henry Garr; 1 great-grandchild, Julian Gilchrist; siblings: Annabeth (Earl) Taylor of Ottumwa, Iowa, Enid Irene “Peggy” (James) Aiello of Mystic, Iowa, Carl Mac Davis of Hilsboro, Texas and Patty Sue Davis of Centerville, Iowa; Lisa Firestine (whom she and Larry considered a daughter) and many other family members and friends.

Funeral Services for Jennie Lea Garr, age 70 of Pleasantville, will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Mason Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery – Van Meter, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
