Barbara Jean “Jeanie” West was born July 13, 1943 in Ackworth, Iowa. The daughter of Ordie and Helen White. She was raised in Runnells, Iowa and graduated from Runnells School in 1961. In school, she participated in basketball, softball, and cheerleading. Growing up, Jeanie attended church in Runnells. On September 19, 1964, Jeanie was united in marriage to Jim West. They had two children, Jimmy and Janea. Jim and Jeanie made their home on an acreage North of Pleasantville, where they raised their family. Jeanie stayed at home until her children started school, then she worked at Midland Financial and Medicare. She retired in 2008 and started her best job ever--staying home with her granddaughters. Jeanie will be remembered for her kind and giving heart, sparkling blue eyes, and infectious laugh. The community could always count on Jeanie to prepare and serve food for numerous wedding receptions, benefit auctions, and funeral luncheons. Jeanie’s fond memories include the time she spent with her dear neighbor friends drinking coffee while all the neighborhood kids played, going to the Cross Country Trail Ride in Eminence, Missouri for many years, and any time spent with family and friends. Her granddaughters were her pride and joy. She loved spending all the time with her girls that she could, baking, crafting, and attending their activities. Highlights of her favorite recent memories were, in the summer of 2019 when her life-long friends Linda Dawson and Jeanie Beck drove her to Huron, SD to watch Joelle at her junior high rodeo national finals; and she loved going to the Marion County Fair to watch Katie show her goats, even if it was 105 degrees.
Jeanie passed away at her home, surrounded by loving family and friends, on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, due to complications from pulmonary fibrosis. She was 77.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents Ordie and Helen White, brother Gary White, and husband, Jim West. Those left to cherish her memory are son Jimmy West, daughter-in-law Jenny West, daughter Janea Johnson, son-in-law Mark Johnson, granddaughters Katie and Joelle, and many family members and friends. She will be greatly missed.
