James Michael Worthington was born September 17, 1945 in Knoxville, Iowa the son of James Merrill Worthington and Ethel (Hendrix) Worthington.
He was raised in Pleasantville and following high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy. On September 25, 1966 he was united in marriage to Barbara Roff at the Pleasantville Church of Christ. Jim was honorably discharged in 1968 in California. Jim and Barb returned to Iowa in 1969 and have lived in Knoxville since 2008. Jim was in sales and marketing for 23 years and then retired from Bridgestone/Firestone as a mechanic after 15 years of service in 2008. During his retirement, Jim worked at the Knoxville Farm & Home Store.
In his spare time, Jim enjoyed boating, playing cards and traveling. He especially enjoyed his trips to Washington, D.C., San Francisco and visiting the Chicago Bears Training Camp. Jim lived life to the fullest and he never met a stranger. Family was the most important part of Jim’s life, and he loved spending time with his wife children, grandchildren, sister and in-laws.
Jim passed away on Friday, May 19, 2017 at West Ridge Nursing & Rehab, in Knoxville, at the age of 71 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Ronnie Kurtz.
Those left to cherish Jim’s memory include his wife, Barb; son, Jimmy Worthington of Newton, Iowa; daughter, Jennifer (Jeff) Hall of Lusby, Maryland; granddaughters: Donica Worthington of San Leandro, California; Rebecca Worthington of Newton, Iowa and Persephone Hall of Lusby, Maryland; sister Nancy Kurtz of Naples, Florida; in-laws: Bob (Theresa) Roff of Birmingham, Iowa; Rodney (Anita) Roff of Knoxville; David Roff of Knoxville and Cindy (Jamie) Jackson of Glenwood, Missouri and many other family members and friends.
A memorial service for Jim Worthington, age 71 of Knoxville, will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Pleasantville American Legion Post No. 108.
