James William Nichols was born January 28, 1948 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the son of William J. and Muriel LaVonne (Hartman) Nichols.
He was raised in the Attica area where he attended country school before graduating from Twin Cedars High School in 1966. On July 17, 1965 Jim was united in marriage to Barbara Kay Wineland. As a young man, Jim worked for Cathcart Locker in Attica, Cline Locker in Oskaloosa and Maytag in Newton. Eventually he took a job as a plumber at the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville. He retired from the V.A. after 30 years of service. In his retirement he operated a private plumbing business, serving Knoxville and surrounding communities and operated a car wash.
Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He and Barb loved to dance and were members of the Lads N Ladies Square Dance Club.
Jim passed away Friday, July 14, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his family, at the age of 75 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Carolyn Kaye (Robert) Thomas and Marlya (Jim) Wishmeyer; nephew, Marty Derringer; niece, Mary Lee Shafer; in-laws, Dwight & Edna Wineland; sister-in-law, Marcella Younker; brothers-in-law: Ernest Wallace and Ken Wilkens and step-sister, Laura Jane Edwards.
Those left to honor Jim’s memory include his wife, Barb; children: Kerry (Amie) Nichols, Tammy Goad and Teresa (Jeff) Robuck; step-mother, Delores Nichols; twin brother, John (Barb) Nichols; sister, Beatrice (Ron) Hensel; brother, Albert Miller; half-brother, Bobby Nichols; half-sister, Christina (Billy) Stark; step-brother, William (Kathie) Nelson; step-brother, Ron (Susan) Breese; sisters-in-law: Vera Wilkens and Kathy Wallace; brother-in-law, Richard (Kelly) Wineland; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
