James Edward Grimes was born December 16, 1918 in Monroe County, Iowa the son of Harry and Mabel (Barnhill) Grimes.
He lived in Monroe County most of his early life and graduated from Albia High School. On August 30, 1949 he was united in marriage to Helen Bambrook. To this union three sons were born: Larry, William and James, Jr. James farmed and worked at Morrell until taking a job with Gambles in Albia. In 1964 he transferred to Knoxville and became the manager of the Gambles Store until his retirement.
James passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 95 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; son, James, Jr. and his brothers: John, Paul and Emmett.
He is survived by his sons: Larry (Shirley) and Bill (Peggy); grandchildren: Chad (Rhonda) Grimes of Knoxville, Tracy (Steve) Curren of Ankeny and Mike (Michelle) Flowers of Indianola; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, David (Gladys) Grimes of Albia; dear friends, Sam and Cora Rathmel and many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
