Jack W. Viers was born August 23, 1923 in Swan, Iowa the son of Ernest and Gladys (Conley) Viers.
He graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1943. On November 23, 1943 Jack was united in marriage to Alberta Mae Caulkins. The couple made their home in Swan, Iowa. In 1952 they moved to Salt lake City, Utah where Jack drove a truck for Meadow Gold Dairy. They returned to Swan in 1958 and in addition to farming, Jack worked at Langlebartle’s Men’s Store in Knoxville. In 1959 he took a job at the Knoxville V.A. Hospital as a nurse aid. He retired from the V.A. in 1983.
During their retirement years, Jack and Alberta enjoyed traveling; they had been to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada 7 times, and made numerous trips to Kansas and Colorado. They also wintered in Texas and Arizona for many years. In his spare time, Jack liked hunting, fishing, antiquing and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed woodworking projects in high school. Jack was a lifetime member of the NRA.
Jack passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022 at his home, in Swan, at the age of 98 years.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Mae; daughters: Virginia Sue Collins and Jacqueline Mae Clark; granddaughter, Sherry Clark; sister, Wanda (Gene) Williams; sons-in-law: Don Mosher and Larry Futrelle; daughters-in-law: Lana and Rhonda Viers and brother-in-law, Ivan Dunn.
Those left to honor Jack’s memory include his children: Roger Viers of Colorado, Barbara Mosher of Meriden, Kansas, Nancy Futrelle of Palmyra and Jack “Buddy” Viers of Swan; grandchildren: Monty (Renee), Mark (Teri), Maris (Kim), Kandi, Kristi (Dan), Darren (Judy), Julie (Alan), Ryan, R.J., Stacey (Bill), Dennis, Lori and Darrell; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; sister, Velda Dunn of Minnesota; sons-in-law: Herb Collins of Swan and Steve Clark of Hartford and many other family members and friends.
