Jack Duare Richards, formerly of Martensdale, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Good Samaritan Center in Indianola, Iowa. Jack was 100 years old. Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville, Iowa. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Jack was born November 11, 1917 in Pleasantville, Iowa the son of Tommy and Ruby (Galvin) Richards. He was a graduate of Pleasantville High School.
Jack joined the Navy as a pharmacist mate in the South Pacific during WWII. He was united in marriage to Ardith Guthrie on July 10, 1954 and the couple recently celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Jack was a heavy equipment operator and salesman with Herman M. Brown Company. After retirement, Jack helped (but mainly argued with) his brother Otis on the farm in Pleasantville. He also enjoyed farming, camping, horseback and mule riding. He frequently rode trails in many Iowa State Parks and enjoyed riding in local parades alongside his brothers and many friends.
Jack is survived by his wife Ardith; daughter, Judy (Doug) McKain of Indianola; son, TJ (Jennifer) Richards of Marana, AZ; grandchildren: Katie McKain of Des Moines, Kelcie (Ben) Whaley of Ely, IA, Tara (Giuseppe) Biondolillo of Chicago, IL, Taylor Richards of Denver, CO, Tanner Richards of Mesa, AZ and great-grandson, Harrison Whaley. He is also survived by siblings: Carolyn Hull, Marianne Stubbs and Jerry Richards. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Bonnie Vrban, Joanne McRae, Margaret Bane, Otis Richards and Duane “Hoot” Richards.
