Irma Grace Neil was born September 10, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Frank C. and Grace C. (Woodmansee) Giebrich.
She graduated from East High School, in Des Moines, in 1941. As a young woman, Irma worked for United Laundry in Des Moines. On May 2, 1948 she was united in marriage to Robert Iver Neil. Irma was the bookkeeper for their business, Neil’s Surge Service. The couple moved to Knoxville in 1958. In 1971 they opened Romar Auto Parts.
In her spare time, Irma enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She also gardened and was especially proud of her roses. Irma was also an accomplished cross stitcher. She was a member of the Friendly Wednesday Club.
Irma passed away Monday, July 13, 2020 at the West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center at the age of 96 years.
In addition to her parents, Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and son, Mark.
Those left to cherish Irma’s memory include her children: Paul (Vianna) Neil of Grand Junction, Colorado, Nila (Roy) Landsperger of Otley, Iowa, Martha Tibbetts of Alamosa, Colorado and daughter-in-law, Judy Neil of Knoxville; 7 grandchildren: Susan (Jason) Ernst, Joe (Stacia) Neil, Andy Neil, Brian Landsperger, Laura Landsperger, Jason Tibbetts and Gabe Tibbetts (Sheena Nusbaum); 10 great-grandchildren: Jared and Brandon Ernst, Savannah and Sydney Neil, Griffyn and Morrigan Landsperger, Aaron and Kilee Tibbetts and Ravyn and Serenity Tibbetts and many other family members and friends.
A Visitation for Irma Neil, age 96 of Knoxville, will be held Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Graveside funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Indianola. Memorials may be made to Every Step Hospice – Knoxville Office or to West Ridge Specialty Care.
