Herbert H. Collins was born on February 4, 1941, on a farm east of Runnells, Iowa, to George Irl and Janie Belle (Dabb) Collins.
Herb went to school through the third grade in Swan, Iowa and then went on to graduate from Pleasantville High School with the Class of 1959. Herb married his one and only love, Virginia Sue Viers, on August 5, 1962, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They were blessed with five children, 14 grandchildren and soon to be 14 great grandchildren.
After Herb and Virginia married, they lived in Hartford, Iowa from 1962 to 1968. In the fall of 1968, they moved to a farm in Swan where he had resided since. Herb raised pigs, stock cows and farmed row crops. Herb worked 30 years at John Deere Des Moines Works, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 450 and the Iowa Air National Guard from 1961-1967.
Herb was a member of the Church of Christ in Pleasantville, Iowa. He enjoyed spending time with his family, holding his great grandchildren, gardening and was always doing something outside on the farm.
Herb went to be with the Lord Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the age of 83, at his home surrounded by family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Virginia of 49 years; sister, Georgia Krichau; brothers: Joe, Raymond, Rolland, Roy, a brother in infancy, and father-in-law, Jack Viers.
Those left to honor his memory include three beloved sons: Monty (Renee) Collins of Pleasantville, Iowa; Mark (Teri) Collins of Swan, Iowa; Maris (Kimberly) Collins of Knoxville, Iowa; two precious daughters: Kandi Collins of Swan, Iowa and Kristi (Dan) Kamerick of Harvey, Iowa; grandchildren: Keisha (Brandon) Thompson, Trisha (Brock) Webb, Ross (Katie) Collins, Logan (Ella) Collins, Kassadi DeMoss, Levi (Atty) Collins, Riley (Avery) Collins, Katelynn Collins, Gracie Collins, Lacee (Cody) Ambers, Alyssa (Jake) Sharp, Kolten (Gabby) Kamerick, Karsen Kamerick and Kyra Kamerick; great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Marshall, Walker, Ginny, Grayson, Jensen, Vashti, Ivory, Kash, Ava, and Ellie; brother, Larry (Connie) of Pleasantville, Iowa and many other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pleasantville American Legion Post No. 108 or to the Pleasantville Food Pantry
