Helen Johanna Neifert was born January 19, 1928 at home, in rural Marion County, Iowa, the daughter of Marsailus and Reka (Slykhuis) Goemaat.
She was raised on her family’s farm and graduated from Attica, Iowa High School. On August 24, 1946 Helen was united in marriage to Dale Vernon Neifert in Kilduff, Iowa. To this union a son, Carl, was born in 1948. The couple made their home on a farm 1 mile east of Attica. Helen enjoyed being a farm wife and mother. In 1980 Helen and Dale moved to Unionville, Missouri and later to Chula, Missouri and then to Trenton, Missouri. In 2016 they moved to Knoxville, Iowa.
Helen was an excellent seamstress and also enjoyed quilting and making afghans. She also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes. She was a devout Christian and a faithful member of the Attica United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School leader. While living in Missouri, Helen also enjoyed being an O.A.T.S. bus driver for the elderly.
Helen passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the West Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 94 years.
She was preceded in death by husband, Dale in 2019, her sister Betty Pearson, and her parents Marsailus and Reka Goemaat.
Those left to cherish Helen’s memory include her son, Carl Neifert of Winterset, Iowa; granddaughter, Sara Parks and husband, Forrest of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren: Kyle, Kaitlyn and Kirsten Parks; sisters: Marcella Rook and Ruby Van Vark; several nieces and nephews in the Pella and Knoxville area and many other family members and friends.
Family and friends of Helen Neifert, age 94 of Knoxville, will gather at the Attica Community Building (Indiana Township Fire Department) on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Attica Community Building.
