Harry A. Dop, 86, of Pleasantville, Iowa passed away on July 2, 2019 at Accura HealthCare in Pleasantville, Iowa.
Harry was born July 29, 1932 in rural Jasper County, Iowa to Peter and Josephine (Van Peursem) Dop. He graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1950. Harry served in the Army during the Korean Conflict as a military police officer. He married Marjorie Anthony on September 15, 1957 at Fairview Christian Church. Harry farmed his entire life in the Fairview community, with the vast majority of those years on the same farm where he grew up. He loved farming and was a dedicated steward of the land and his livestock. After retiring, he worked at the feed store in Knoxville where he enjoyed visiting with farmers who came in. Harry enjoyed telling a good story or memory.
Harry is survived by his wife Marjorie of Pleasantville, son Randy (Becky) Dop of Bloomington, Minnesota, daughters Nancy Dop of Clive, Iowa, and Carol (Rod) Beier of Pleasantville; grandchildren Drew (Ashley) Parker, Jeremy Dop, Logan Dop, Josie Beier, and Adam (Mady) Beier; great grandchildren Riley, Jaxson, and Ryder; sister Dorothy (Bob) Handel of Lodi, California, brother Roy (Beverly) Dop of Eagan, Minnesota, and sister, Irma (Wendell) Williams of Knoxville, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Also surviving are special friend Denise Clark and “best buddy” Jill Johnson.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and four brothers.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Accura HealthCare for their care of Harry during the past three years and for their tremendous support of us in recent days. Suncrest Hospice was also invaluable to the family since mid-June.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Fairview Christian Church at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Lynda Carlson officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Lincoln Cemetery, Knoxville, Iowa. The family will greet friends and family from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairview Christian Church, P.O. Box 247, Pleasantville, Iowa 50225 or to the American Legion Post 0108, P.O. Box 40, Pleasantville, Iowa 50225.
