When Peck was about 5 years old, his family moved to a farm on Long Lane near Attica. Peck spent his boyhood at the Attica School, completing the eighth grade. He helped his father farm and raise cattle and hogs. The family returned to the Harvey community in 1942 and farmed Dr. Wilcox’s ground. On October 29, 1944 Peck was united in marriage to Maryellen Johnson. The couple lived near Harold’s parents and continued farming. Maryellen taught at the Fairview Country School. In 1949 the Sinclair Coal Company opened an operation on the farm. Later that year Peck went to work for the coal company where he remained for the next 14 ½ years. In 1951 Peck and Maryellen purchased their own farm where they raised their sons, Leslie J. and Daniel G. In 1983 Peck and Maryellen moved to Knoxville. Peck worked in housekeeping at the V.A. until his retirement.
Peck was a devoted member of the Bellefountaine Masonic Lodge for 50 years before transferring his membership to the Gavel Lodge in Attica. He then established a dual membership with the Oriental Lodge in Knoxville. He also belonged to the Knoxville York Rite Bodies and in 1965 he became a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. Peck faithfully served the lodge as long as his health permitted.
