Geoffrey Allen Shultz was born November, 20, 1951 in Ottumwa, Iowa the son of Kenneth Elwin Shultz and Pollyanna (Goley) Shultz.
He was raised on his family’s farm in the Melcher-Dallas area and graduated from Melcher-Dallas with the Class of 1970. Geoff then attended Simpson College, earning a degree in Music and Education. During college, Geoff did his student teaching in Knoxville and following graduation he took a job with the Knoxville School System. He later earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Northeast Missouri State University. Geoff was the Middle School Band Director and organized the drum and bugle corps. He retired in May of 2012. In addition to teaching, Geoff farmed most of his life and was the organist for the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville for years.
Geoff was a member of several musical groups through the years, including Gospel Goulash and Experience With The Grandkids. Fun-loving, witty, ornery with a heart of gold and always ready to visit are words that truly describe Geoff. He was always available to help a friend, neighbor or student. Shultz, as his students called him, was truly was a mentor and inspiration to hundreds of kids throughout his career.
Geoff passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at his home at the age of 63 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Geoff is survived by his siblings: Anthony (Irene) Shultz of Lacona and Tanya Shultz of Runnells and many other family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service for Geoff Shultz, age 63 of Melcher-Dallas, will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. Burial will follow in the Tickel Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Knoxville Middle School Music Department.
