Gene Williams was born August 20, 1922 on the family farm, in Pleasant Grove Township, the son of Charles Wesley Williams and Edna Metcalf Williams.
He graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1941. On October 17, 1942 Gene was united in marriage to Wanda Viers. The couple have always farmed and lived in the Pleasantville area. In addition to farming, Gene drove a school bus for over 20 years. He was a very devout Christian and was a founding member of the Pleasantville Church of Christ. Through the years, Gene had served as a deacon, trustee and elder of the church. He was the consummate farmer and was always a good steward of the land on his family’s Century Farm. Above all else, Gene cherished his family, he will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Gene passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at the Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 93 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Geraldine and Doris Burnham and brothers: Harold and Dwight.
Those left to honor Gene’s memory include his loving wife of 73 years, Wanda; children: Janet Peffers of West Des Moines and Steven Williams (Barbara) of Indianola; grandchildren: Donnie (Shelly) Peffers of Pleasantville and Jamee (Brock) Goslar of Memphis, TN; great-grandchildren: Kris (Nicole) Peffers of Swan, Tyler Peffers of Pleasantville and Connor and Claire Goslar of Memphis, TN; sister-in-law, Velda Dunn of Minneapolis, MN; brother-in-law, Jack Viers of Swan and numerous nieces and nephews.
