Gary Wayne Jordan was born September 9, 1956 in Knoxville, Iowa the son of Ellis and Frances (Brooks) Jordan.

Gary was raised on the family farm south of Pleasantville and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1974. While in high school, Gary was active in wrestling, basketball, football, track, FFA and Band. Following high school, Gary attended Ellsworth Junior College and then Iowa State University. He also played semi-pro football for the Newton Nighthawks for one year. He then worked for Leland and Jack Vanderlinden in their construction business for several years. On October 6, 1979 Gary was united in marriage to Patricia Clark at the Fairview Christian Church. Gary took a job with Hormel Foods, in Knoxville, on July 5, 1984. He worked in the plant at Hormel until his retirement in October of 2014.

Gary was a huge fan of Iowa State athletics and when he couldn't attend the football and basketball games, he watched or listened to them at home. He also had a passion for sprint car racing, and he and his brothers owned a sprint car from 1978 to 2012. In fact, Gary, Rodney and Roger were inducted into the Knoxville Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2010. In his spare time, he also enjoyed NASCAR, golfing and St. Louis Cardinal Baseball. Gary's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends.

Gary passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 58 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish Gary's memory include his wife, Patricia; siblings: Rodney and Roger of Knoxville and Cynthia (Neil) Crane of Pleasantville; nieces: Angela (Brian) Johns and their children, Madison and Olivia and Emily (Joe) Herring; in-laws: Bruce Clark and Dennis (Linda) Clark and their children, Todd Clark and Jodi (Shane) Sorenson and their son, Cale and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.




Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 11 at the Fairview Christian Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Lincoln Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. Friday at the Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Fairview Christian Church or to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum
