Eugene Frank Bertrand

Eugene Frank Bertrand was born November 18, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Ralph and Helen (Romans) Bertrand.

He was raised in Des Moines and as a young man he started working to help support his family. On June 6, 1959 Gene was united in marriage to Judy DuBois at the Grace Lutheran Church. Gene drove a truck for Great Plains for several years. He then worked for Jake’s alignment before Gene and his friend, Ron Jarboe, started The Alignment Shop in Dallas Center. They owned and operated the shop until Gene’s retirement in 2006.

In his spare time, Gene enjoyed pheasant and deer hunting and fishing. He also liked to watch NASCAR. Gene planted a huge vegetable garden every year and enjoyed tending to the plants and sharing his crop with family and friends. He was also very proud of his home in Woodward, which he built himself in 1975. He and Judy enjoyed traveling and had been on several cruises during their retirement.

Gene passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025 at his home, in Bondurant, at the age of 85 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; son, Jerry Bertrand; brothers: Jerry Lee, Larry Joseph, Jack Ray, and Donald Lewis Bertrand.

Those left to honor Gene’s memory include his children: Randy (Darlene) Bertrand, Mike (Michelle) Bertrand and Mary (Jeff) Logue; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; siblings: Ron (Judy) Bertrand and Linda Anderson and other family members and friends.

A funeral service for Gene Bertrand, age 85 of Woodward, will be held Friday, May 2, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mason Funeral Home, in Pleasantville, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Cumming. The family will receive friends at Mason Funeral Home on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
