Elaine Marilyn Shanks

Elaine Marilyn Shanks was born August 23, 1933 in Rising Sun, Iowa the daughter of Floyd and Ruth (Plumlee) Darrah.
She graduated from East High School, in Des Moines. She took shorthand training and was employed by an insurance company in Des Moines. On December 22, 1951 Elaine was united in marriage to Robert Lee Shanks. The couple made their home in Des Moines. Elaine worked for Ramsey Village as the activity director and she retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Co.
Elaine was a faithful member of the Chesterfield Christian Church, in Des Moines. In her spare time, she enjoyed embroidery, sewing and cooking. She was also a member of the Eastern star in Runnells. She enjoyed visits from family and friends and was always comfortable entertaining in her pajamas.
Elaine passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center at the age of 84 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert; son-in-law, Frank Hunter and siblings: Pam and Phyllis.
Those left to cherish Elaine’s memory include her children: Kathi Shanks (Tim Held), Roben (J.B.) Haley and Beth Hunter; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings: Karen Click and Jim Darrah and many other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Elaine Shanks, age 84 formerly of Des Moines, will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Mason Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.BertrandFuneralHomes.com .
