Edna Noreen Clark was born July 30, 1921 in East Peru, Iowa the daughter of Harley and Anna (Verwers) Carpenter.
She was raised in the Des Moines area and attended three different high schools before her family moved to Swan, where Edna graduated from Swan High School. In 1939 she was united in marriage to Charles Homer Clark. The couple farmed in the rural Pleasantville area. Edna was the consummate farm wife, helping Charles in the field and with other farm chores. At the age of 49, Edna took a job with the Marion County Courthouse and worked in the clerk’s office for 27 years prior to her retirement.
Edna loved to dance, especially square dancing and clogging. After Charles’ passing, Edna eventually married Art Schlosser and the couple wintered in Mission, Texas for several years. Edna was proud of her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edna continued to dance until she was 96 years old, and was a Sunday School teacher for 40 years and had a strong faith till the end.
Edna passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the Comfort House, in Pella, at the age of 98 years.
In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her husbands: Charles Clark and Art Schlosser; daughter, Janet Porter-Breuklander; granddaughter, Lisa Krichau; daughter-in-law, Marian Clark and siblings: Merna, Norma, George, Vada, and Irma.
Those left to cherish Edna’s memory include her son, Larry Clark; grandchildren: Lori Porter-Keillor (Chad) of Kansas City, Craig Porter (Julie) of Ankeny, Marla Clark-Hlas (Doug) of Traer, Megan Niday (Devin) of Pleasantville, Tyler Clark of California, and Darin Clark (Alyssa) of Pleasantville; 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and many other family members and friends.
A Funeral Service for Edna Clark, age 98 of Pleasantville, will be held Friday, January 3, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mason Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Pleasantville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Mason Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America.
