Dwayne Mortenson, the son of Russel and Lillie (Bates) Mortenson, was born on May 1, 1930 in Kellogg, Iowa. He grew up in Kellogg and graduated from Newton High School in 1949. Dwayne served in the Iowa National Guard and was honorably discharged. Dwayne was united in marriage to Mary Jane Six on May 31, 1952.

Dwayne worked at the Maytag Company for over 44 years and was area supervisor over dryer assembly for a number of those years.

Dwayne enjoyed wood carving. He and his good friend Dennis Johanson had won several Blue Ribbons with their projects at the Iowa State Fair.

His biggest joy was fishing trips to Minnesota with Tom, Homer and Phil.

Dwayne was an active member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Pershing.

Dwayne passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at the Comfort House, in Pella, at the age of 92 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Ovid “Lee”, Osval Francis “Oz”, Montie, Dale and twin brother, Dwight.

Dwayne is survived by two children: Rick (Jan) Mortenson of Pershing and Dennis Mockenhaupt (Les) of Pershing; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many good friends.

Memorials may be made to the Pershing Community Center.
