Duane Greubel, Pleasantville, was born on May 10, 1948 and died peacefully on September 19, 2018. He joins his father, William Greubel, mother, Dorothy Greubel, and brother, Kenny Greubel. Greg Harold Greubel, Philadelphia, and Karissa Katherine Thompson, Philippines, miss him. Duane lived in Marion County his entire life. He attended Melcher-Dallas high school. Throughout high school, he worked at a rock quarry—the easiest place to get dynamite for his explosive fishing techniques.
Duane had a series of jobs learning the skills of repairing small engines before establishing Greubel’s Sales and Service in 1981. He never worked anywhere else. He had a very successful career. He loved his business. His attention to detail was evident in his work. He taught Greg and Karissa at a young age about mechanics, and he always loved to have them work with him on anything he did.
Duane was an ideal father. He took Greg and Karissa to dance and karate in Des Moines as they were growing up. He never missed a volleyball match, basketball game, football game, baseball game, or track meet. Duane gave Greg and Karissa an unreasonable amount of confidence.
Duane loved being outside. Duane was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, and muscle car enthusiast. He spent countless hours on the 80 hunting deer and turkeys, taking care of the ponds, and making sure all the trees were in good shape. He was always working on his cars and motorcycles. When he was young, he loved to drive to Colorado on his Harley but hated all the bugs that got in his beard.
Duane loved his siblings and their children. Duane could not spend enough time with Jan, Dan, Donny, or Kenny. They spent many hours with Duane doing what he loved; gardening with Jan, hunting with Dan, working with Donny, and just hanging out with Kenny. His siblings were his best friends.
Duane was thoughtful, kind, and authentic. He would want anyone reading this to know that it’s all good. Everyone dies. Everyone wishes that they had more time with those that they love. Duane did what he wanted to do. If you asked him, he would say that he couldn’t do anything else.
Private services will be held at a later date.
