Dorothy Lavon Batten was born December 13, 1929 in Marion County, Iowa the daughter of Willard Emery and Bessie Ann (Bingham) Kingery.
Dorothy attended country school and then Attica High School. As a young woman she took a job at the Continental Overall Factory in Knoxville, where she worked for 10 years. On July 1, 1950 Dorothy was united in marriage to Roger Batten. This union was blessed with two children: Linda and D.J. The couple always made their home in Knoxville. Dorothy was a homemaker while Roger worked for Iowa Electric Light & Power and served the country in the Iowa National Guard.
Dorothy and Roger were charter members of the Faith Baptist Church of Knoxville. Through the years, Dorothy had taught Sunday School, Bible School, worked with the AWANA program, hosted church visitors and anything else that needed done at the church. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, baking, puzzles and I.S.U. Basketball. She will be remembered as a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Dorothy passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Knoxville Hospital & Clinics at the age of 90 years.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Roger in 1994 and her twin sister, Doris Lang.
Those left to cherish Dorothy’s memory include her daughter Linda (Randy) Van Wyngarden of Knoxville; son, Doyle “D.J.” Batten of Orange City, Florida; grandchildren: Amanda (Troy) Galeazzi, Joe (Amanda) Jerkins, Jacob Batten and Joshua Batten; step-grandson, Jamie (Jenn) Van Wyngarden; great-grandchildren: Taylor, Evan, William, Samuel and Nolan Galeazzi, J.J. and Ava Jerkins and Tyeson and Reide Van Wyngarden; sisters: Thelma Beaver and Marylin Kingery of Knoxville and many other family members and friends.



Memorials may be made to Des Moines Alpha Women’s Center or to the Faith Baptist Church of Knoxville.
