Donald Eugene Ryun was born February 13, 1950 in Chariton, Iowa the son of Eugene William and Mary Elizabeth (Lancaster) Ryun.
Don attended Chariton High School and then enlisted in the United States Army and served eight years during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, Don returned to Chariton and worked for Johnson Machine Works. In January of 1982 he was united in marriage to Dixie Funk. Don spent most of his working life at the Knoxville V.A. Hospital as a C.N.A. He retired 9 years ago.
In his spare time, Don enjoyed camping and fishing with Dixie. He and Dixie also served as camp hosts at Marion County Park. Don always enjoyed a jigsaw puzzle, especially during the winter when he couldn’t be outside. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Don passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the West Ridge Nursing Center at the age of 67 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill and two sisters: Shirley and Barb.
Those left to cherish Don’s memory include his wife, Dixie; son, Brian of Knoxville; three grandchildren: Caitlynn, Alyssa and Sean; three great-grandchildren; sister, Jan Graves of Williamson and many other family members and friends.
Don Ryun, age 67 of Knoxville, has been cremated and no services are planned.
