Dolores Grace Fortner

Dolores Grace Fortner was born June 22, 1932 in Polk City, Iowa the daughter of Harold and Dorothy (Nash) Sutter.
She graduated from Polk City High School. Dolores began her working career as a legal secretary in Des Moines. She later attended Drake University and then spent many years as an instructor at Des Moines Area Community College. Dolores was married to Herman Smith “Smitty” Fortner for many years until his death in 1996. In her retirement, Dolores moved to the Pleasantville, Iowa area.
Over the years, Dolores had purchased several farms in the Pleasantville area and was quite proud of her land. In her spare time, Dolores was active in the Pleasantville Senior Center and the Motor Friends Church. She also enjoyed quilting and was well known for her correspondence with family and friends. She and Smitty enjoyed camping for many years with Don and Marjean Sutter.
Dolores passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023 at her home at the age of 91 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughters: Jessica and Olivia Ball and siblings: Bruce “Buzz”, Patty Dunn and Ruthie Kelly.
Dolores is survived by her brother, Don (Marjean) Sutter; children: Nancy (Mike) Ball and Dale Fortner and several nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
Private family services were held.
