David I. Spriggs

David Spriggs was born at the Mine Hospital in Gilman, Colorado on January 5, 1937 the son of David I. and Opal (Taylor) Williams. He was adopted at the age of 10 years and resided in Minturn, Colorado with his adoptive parents, Murl and Georgia Spriggs until he entered the United States Navy in 1956. He married Mary Lou Sutherland on May 20, 1958. He was honorably discharged in 1960 and settled in Knoxville, Iowa. David worked at the Knoxville V.A. Hospital until retiring in 1994. He was widowed in 2000, and married Sharon Barrett Kain in 2004. David passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Care Center, in Indianola, Iowa, at the age of 77 years. He is survived by his wife Sharon; two sons: Krestin (Rita) and Tim (Cindy) Spriggs all of Knoxville and two step-children: Shari Leatherman of Oskaloosa and Jeff Knoot (Ulli) of Knoxville. Per David’s wishes he has been cremated with dispersion of his remains in Minturn, Colorado at a later date. Memorials may be made to HCI Care Services or to the Colorado Railroad Museum.
