David Valentino Lucas was born February 14, 1925 in Monroe County, Iowa the son of George and Ann (Mitrisin) Lucas.
He was raised in Lovilia and graduated from Lovilia High School. Following high school, Dave moved to Davenport and became a lineman for the electric company. On June 5, 1948 he was united in marriage to Bernadine “Bernie” Aversing. The couple first made their home in Lovilia. Dave worked for the V.A. Hospital in Knoxville in the Engineering Department, taking care of preventative maintenance. He also farmed with his father as a young man. In 1975 Dave and Bernie moved to Knoxville. He happily retired at the age of 55.
In his spare time, Dave enjoyed gardening and exercising, whether he was riding his bike or going to the Rec Center. He and Bernie also traveled extensively, seeing almost every state, taking cruises and visiting Venezuela.
Dave passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Park Lane Village at the age of 92 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernadine; daughter, Vicki Bingaman; son, Tim and his siblings: Eldon, Elna and Maxine.
Those left to cherish Dave’s memory include his son, Greg (LuAnn) of Newton; daughter, Lynne (Jody) Kasal of Elberon, Iowa; three grandchildren: Jeff, Adam and Kurt (Shelby) Lucas; two step-grandchildren: Eve and Joseph Kasal; three great-grandchildren: Eleanor, J.J. and Estella and many other family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dave Lucas, age 92 of Knoxville, will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to H.C.I. Care Services – Knoxville Office or to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
