David D DeForest passed away peacefully at the age of 62, surrounded by his loving family on the afternoon of January, 19 2022. He was born on October 24, 1959 in Cherokee, Iowa to Alvin and Pat DeForest. His family moved to Pleasantville in 1969. He graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1978. The following summer David and Shelley were married on July 21, 1979 and they began building their life together.

He began his working career at AMF as a welder for 2 years and then went to work for Pella Corp where he continued to work for the last 39 years.

David had many accomplishments throughout the years but being a father to his four children: Chrissy, Cody, Heath, and Cami was his greatest achievement. David spent many years coaching his boys in baseball and providing words of encouragement and guidance to his children after every event he watched. David’s happy place was on a lake with a fishing pole in hand. He spent many summers in Canada fishing for Northern Pike, trolling around red rock on his boat or setting the lines for his catfish with his buddy, Jack. After the fish were caught, he couldn’t wait to invite his family over for a fish fry. You could often find David on the golf course, looking for a big buck, or playing cards. He also loved traveling with his family and friends. After work, he enjoyed heading on over to the Peanut Pub and throwing back a few craft beers with his buddies.

David was always a call away to help family and friends. His problem solving abilities allowed him to tackle many home related projects and vehicle break-downs that many would choose to not do themselves. One thing he refused to help with was painting; however, in many cases he would secretly pick up a brush.

He loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs, and the Pleasantville Trojans. However, his true love was supporting his kids and now grandkids in their many extracurricular activities of baseball, softball, football, basketball, wrestling, track, gymnastics, archery, band, choir, and dance. Multiple grandkids definitely ensured multiple events in one day, but it wasn’t uncommon for him and Shelley to drive from town to town to make it to them all.

He will always be remembered by his welcoming smile, warm embrace, and his ability to just always be there for anyone at any time.

He was proceeded in death by his mother, Pat DeForest; his father and mother-in-law, James and Darlene Calhoun.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Shelley; four kids, Chrissy Cox (Nick) of Pleasantville, Cody DeForest (Dani) of Albia, Heath DeForest (Meghan) of Pleasantville, and Cami Kay (James) of Cedar Rapids; his father, Alvin DeForest of Lyons, GA; two brothers, Jeff (Teresa) DeForest of Douglas, GA and Dean (Margie) DeForest of Lyons, GA, and his grandchildren Taya, Easton, Leilani, Amaya, Merik, Gideon, and Emery.
