Darroll Daniel Geery was born on Friday, June 10, 1949 in Knoxville, Iowa, the sixth of ten children to Edwin Oral Geery, Sr. and Geraldine Fern (Nichols) Geery. Darroll was raised in Harvey, Iowa attending grade school in Harvey and junior high and high school in Knoxville. As a young man he enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors and loved playing football for KHS. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1967.
After high school he briefly attended Indian Hills Community College. He left college early to begin his lifelong career in heavy equipment operation and skilled trades. He was united in marriage to Linda (Tomson) Geery on February 18, 1971. Darroll and Linda raised their two daughters Cara and Cami In Knoxville.
On January 15, 2000, Darroll was united in marriage to Cindy (Cosner) Geery. Darroll and Cindy spent their years together in Knoxville and Promise City working together at TriStar and S & S Quarries.
Darroll was extremely hard working throughout his life working for Iowa Road Builders and various construction and excavation companies. He was the owner/operator of Geery Quarry in Durham, Iowa, worked at Pella Corporation, owned Geery Construction doing concrete work and excavation, and ended his career working for Tri Star and S & S Quarries.
Darroll passed peacefully on Thursday, March 21, at Pella Hospice House surrounded by his wife, children, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Ed & Gerry, his brothers Gerald (in infancy) and Edwin, Jr., his stepson Brian Speicher, and recently his beloved dog Eddie. Those left to honor his memory include his wife Cindy, daughters Cara (Michael) Irving and Cami (John) Hollinrake all of Knoxville, step daughter Michelle (Christopher) Brooks of Lake St. Louis, MO, seven grandchildren Dominick Clarke, Joseph and Cael Hollinrake, Grace Irving, Parker and Peyton Brooks, and RaeAnne Speicher, brothers Henry (Pat) Geery of Indianola, Alan (Becky Lane) Geery, Clint (Ronda) Geery, sisters Joyce Vander Werff, Susanna Geery, Alicia Geery-Dale all of Knoxville and Karen Wardenburg of Marion, Iowa, and sister-in-law Wanda Geery of Tulsa, OK, his surviving dog Bentley and a very large extended family and many friends.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, April 20, from 11:00 am-2:00 pm at the Harvey Community Center to include a short service and luncheon. A private family service will immediately follow with burial of his cremains at Eureka Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent either in his name to the Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation or directly to the family.
