Darlene DeVos was born May 26, 1931 at Knoxville, Iowa the daughter of Harold I. Smith and Verna Mae (Oliver) Smith. She died Saturday, April 17, 2021. She grew up on farms in Marion County, Iowa and attended Knoxville High School. She was married to Paul A. DeVos on December 20, 1946. To this union 4 children were born. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Verna Smith; two brothers: Walter in 1965 and Dean in 2002 and her husband, Paul in 2003.
Survivors include: 3 daughters and 1 son: Vickii Squiers (Brian) of Tama, IA; Connie Seymour (D. Bruce) of Long Beach, CA; Steven DeVos (Bonne) of Tuscon, AZ; Gloria Treib of Rogers, AR; 7 grandchildren: Andy Squiers (Becca) of Pleasant Hill, IA; Luke Squiers (Brenda) of Tama, IA; David Seymour (Michele) of St. Louis, MO; Heidi Clampitt (Chip) of Long Beach, CA; Meagan Balsley (Stephen) of Burbank, CA; Whitney Hackmann (Daniel) of Rogers, AR; Tyler Treib (Brandy) of Augusta, GA. Also 17 great-grandchildren: Andrea Williams (Michael); Laura Squiers; Malachi, Audra, Kyra, and Calvin Squiers; Henry, and Edyth Seymour; Zerlinda, Amos and Benjamin Clampitt; Ryan and Erin Balsley; Lucy and Olive Hackmann; and Gemma and Millie Treib.
Darlene’s husband, Paul, pastored the First Baptist Church at Tama, IA and after that, churches in Oskaloosa and Ogden. Darlene went to nurse’s training at Des Moines Area Community College in Boone, IA, graduating in spring of 1980. After moving to Rogers, Arkansas in 1980, Darlene worked as an LPN at St. Mary’s Rogers Memorial Hospital for 17 years, retiring in 1997.
In July 2015 Darlene moved back to Iowa to live with her daughter and son-in-law. In December of 2017, Darlene entered the Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama, IA, where she lived until her death. While she was in Iowa during later years, she faithfully attended Reformed Baptist Church.



A funeral service for Darlene DeVos, age 89 of Tama, will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa River Hospice.
