Dareld Wayne Binns, 76, passed away on Sept 13, 2024 in Sacramento, from cardiac arrest after complications in his battle with urothelial cancer.
Dareld was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa and grew up near Knoxville, IA. He was Betty and Emmert Binns' second of twelve children, and the oldest boy. He graduated from Knoxville High School and entered the Air Force soon after. He served in the USAF from 1967 to 1971, becoming a "jet mech over 4 engines" with the 602nd OMS at Travis Air Force Base, Fairfield, CA and attained the rank of Sergeant. He attended Sacramento City College and received a degree in Administration of Justice.
After his honorable discharge, Dareld stayed in California and settled in West Sacramento, where he lived until 2016. His first marriage produced two children, Steven and Renee. His second marriage made him stepfather to Valarie, Craig and Tanya. Dareld worked hard as an Off-Highway Equipment Mechanic to provide for them until he was disabled by an electric shock injury in 2007 while working as Plant Manager for Bell Marine. After being disabled, he became an avid woodcrafter. While living in West Sacramento, he was active in the community, serving in various capacities, the last being as an officer of the Golden Years Club.
He moved to rural Yolo county in 2017, where he remarried and lived quietly until his death. During this time, he began creating turned wood pens and bottle stoppers, as well copper sculpture and silver jewelry.
He survived by his wife of six years, Laurie; children: Steven (Lynn) Binns and Renee (Jack) Lowder; grandchildren: Hunter Binns, Fallon Binns, Delaney Lowder, Gage Lowder; stepchildren Rachel (Jason) McCalpin, Alexander (Amanda) Scott, Valarie Savala; siblings: Sharon Miller, Vonnie Shride, Sandra Renard, Kathie Caylor, Cheryl Howell, Steven Binns; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; many step-grandchildren, including Claire McCalpin, Charlotte Scott, Abigail Scott, Jonathan Scott, Michael Scott, David Savala, and Alexis Tacdol.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmert and Betty (Donley) Binns, siblings Alicia Worthington, Pamela Gritts, Vickie Meisinger, Dennis Binns, and Randal Binns; and stepchildren Craig Harvey and Tanya Tacdol.
