Dan Walter

Charles Daniel Walter was born August 16, 1948 in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Charles Henry Walter, Jr. and Mary Esther (Wilcox) Walter.
Dan was raised in Knoxville and attended Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton, Iowa, graduating in 1969. He made friends easily and enjoyed visiting with people. Dan attended summer camp every year and worked at C.O.C. in Pella, which he greatly enjoyed. Watching movies and building and collecting model planes and cars were favorite hobbies of Dan’s. One of his greatest joys was sprint car racing. He thoroughly enjoyed going to the races and visiting with other spectators, drivers, and the racing crews. His wealth of sprint car knowledge was immeasurable.
Dan passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics at the age of 74 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Mary Esther and sister, Jane A. Bousman.
Those left to honor Dan’s memory include his brothers: Tom (Katherine) Walter of Knoxville and John (Diane) Walter of Chariton; nieces and nephews: Brian (Chalia) Bousman, Bridget (Eric) Mohler, Alex, Lindsey, and Jared Walter and great-nephew Ahren Mohler.
A Memorial Service for Dan Walter, age 74 of Knoxville, will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Private burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Marion County Historical Society.
