Colleen Louise “Coke” Nichols was born June 17, 1935 in Columbia, Iowa the daughter of Clarence Spencer Hendrix and Nancy Maude (Holliday) Hendrix.
She was raised in Columbia and graduated from Dallas High School. Following graduation Colleen moved to Des Moines and worked for Standard Oil as a bookkeeper. On June 22, 1957 she was united in marriage to Arthur Douglas Nichols. To this union two children, Douglas Allen and Tamela were born. Colleen was a stay at home mother until the children were in school. She then worked for Harrison’s Variety and later as a Bookkeeper for Moorman’s Feed for 23 years prior to retirement.
In her spare time, Colleen enjoyed crocheting, reading and bowling. She was a band mom for Allen and Tammy and loved attending her grandchildren’s activities. Colleen and Doug loved to play cards with family and friends, and Colleen was known as the biggest cheater in Rummy. She was a very faithful person and loved serving God and her church.
Colleen passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022 at West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center, in Knoxville, at the age of 86 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard Hendrix.
Those left to cherish Colleen’s memory include her loving husband of 64 years, Doug; son, Allen; daughter Tamela “Tammy” Batterson; 5 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
