Clyde Edgar Prichard Sr.
January 15, 1940 — March 4, 2024
Clyde Edgar Prichard, Sr. was born January 15, 1940 in Robertsville, Missouri the son of Samuel Urban and Iva Maud (Zumwalt) Prichard. He was the youngest of 6 boys and 2 girls.
Clyde was raised on a dairy farm near Robertsville. He graduated from Pacific High School in Missouri and then attended college, eventually earning a Master’s Degree in Education. On August 16, 1958 Clyde was united in marriage to Martha Ann Hogan, and they were blessed with three children Clyde, Jr., Vince and Amy. They lived in Robertsville, Missouri for a year before moving to Springfield from 1961 to 1964. The couple then lived in Villa Ridge, Missouri until moving to Knoxville, Iowa in 1974. Clyde was the principal of East Elementary and later West Middle School until his retirement in 1995. He then worked part-time for Smith’s Carpet and Prichard Custom Flooring.
Clyde and Martha enjoyed 41 years of marriage until her death in 2000. They loved traveling during their retirement years. Clyde was later blessed to meet Maxine Joyce Slykhuis and the two were married January 29, 2005. They spent many wonderful years traveling and camping, with one highlight being a dog sledding trip in Minnesota. Clyde also enjoyed woodworking projects, watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, the outdoors, and taking long walks.
Clyde passed away Monday, March 4, 2024 at his home at the age of 84 years. As a teacher, administrator and mentor, Clyde leaves a legacy as a pillar of integrity, fellowship, kindness and selflessness.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Martha; brothers James, Kenneth, Dale, Samuel, Glenn, and sister Chloe Poe.
Those left to honor Clyde’s memory include his wife, Maxine; children: Clyde, Jr. and wife Pam of Knoxville; Vince and wife Richele of Pleasant Hill and Amy Smith and husband Jeff of Knoxville; six grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine Willoughby of Crestwood, Missouri and many other family members and friends.
A Memorial Service for Clyde Prichard, Sr., age 84 of Knoxville, will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the New Covenant Church. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held with the family at a later date.
