Christena Shilling

Christena Shilling was born November 6, 1922 in Fort Dodge, Iowa the daughter of Alfred and Marie (Merrill) Christensen.
She graduated from Kellogg, Iowa high school. On August 4, 1943 Christena was united in marriage to Herman Leroy Shilling at her parents’ home. The couple farmed for many years, living in Bussey, New Virginia, Sully and Monroe before moving to Knoxville in 1970.
Christena was very active in the Knoxville Free Methodist Church prior to its closing. She enjoyed canning and sewing. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother.
Christena passed away Friday, May 21, 2021 at her home, in Knoxville, at the age of 98 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman; son, Ronald and siblings: Leora Beyer, Anna Laird, Junior Christensen and Marinus Christensen.
Those left to cherish Christena’s memory include her son, Harley Shilling; daughter, Shirley Hanawalt; grandchildren: Bobby, Roger, Steven and Jason; great-grandchildren: Austin, Dalton, Christena, Gage and Seth; great-great grandson, Jack and many other family members and friends.
A Funeral service for Christena Shilling, age 98 of Knoxville, will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
