Rodney Charles Bowers was born September 18, 1942 in Pleasantville, Iowa the son of Joseph Jennings and Eva L. (O’Field) Bowers.
Following his high school graduation, Charlie enlisted in the United States Navy. He spent 14 years in California, attaining the rank of Sr. Chief Petty Officer. He retired after 20 years and returned to Iowa in 1980. Upon his return to Iowa, Charlie worked for the I.R.S. and later took a job at the post office in Carlisle. He retired in 2006. On June 14, 2002 Charlie was united in marriage to Sandra Conley (Strong) at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
In his spare time, Charlie enjoyed traveling with Sandy, especially to Montana. He also liked to fish and was a very particular painter. Charlie also completed a full antique tractor restoration.
Charlie passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at West Ridge Specialty Care, in Knoxville, at the age of 80 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Joseph Dean, Russell Dale, Larry Gene and Sumner Merrill Bowers.
Those left to honor Charlie’s memory include his wife, Sandy; daughter, Lisa Lee; granddaughter, Christina Lee; siblings: Kermit Bowers and Barbara Denzler and many other family members and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Marion County Humane Society or to the Pleasantville Memorial Hall.
