Cecelia Ann Hansen Mesecher was born March 15, 1941 in Ottumwa, Iowa the daughter of Leo and Muriel (Venator) Hansen.
She was raised in Ottumwa, graduating from Ottumwa High School with the Class of 1959. Following high school Cecelia worked for the Boy Scouts of America. On a blind date, at the Iowa State Fair, Cecelia met her future husband, Richard Darrell Mesecher. Cecelia and Dick were married January 7, 1967. They lived in Des Moines, before making their permanent home in Pleasantville. Through the years, Cecelia worked for the Ruan Company, Shorty’s Steakhouse, The Marion County News, The Checkerboard and operated a cake decorating business from home. She and Dick owned Video Valley, an arcade game room business and Mesecher Sanitation. Cecelia and Dick attended the Iowa State Fair every year celebrating the memory of their first date. They began State Fair camping with their children and grandchildren as a yearly extended family vacation. She was well known around central Iowa for the lavish decorations outside of their home on State St., which celebrated major holidays.
Cecelia passed away Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Accura Healthcare of Pleasantville at the age of 83 years.
In addition to her parents, Cecelia was preceded in death by her husband, Dick and her siblings: Mitchell Hansen, Ronald Hansen, Donald Hansen, Daniel Hansen, Mary Youngman, Sharon Doty, Michael Hansen, Patrick Hansen, Hugh Hansen and Brigetta Hansen.
Those left to cherish Cecelia’s memory include her children: Merri Lea (Tim) DeWit, Ronda Dee (Scott) Wicks and Donnie Dean Mesecher; grandchildren: James De Wit (Heather Satterly), Ryan DeWit (Bridget Karnik), Kirk Wicks ( Allison Anderson) Jacob Wicks, Benjamin Wicks, Kyla Mesecher and Kelton Milani. Along with many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
