Cathryn Lynn Dawson

Cathryn Lynn Dawson was born November 28, 1955 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Jack Ray and Doreen May (Routson) Bertrand.

She was raised in Des Moines and attended Lincoln High School. On March 4, 1972 Cathie was united in marriage to Gene Dawson. The couple eventually made their home in Pleasantville, where they raised four sons. As a young woman, Cathie worked at the Younkers Tea Room before working for Des Moines Asphalt & Paving for over 25 years, retiring in 2017.

In her spare time, Cathie enjoyed collecting and refinishing antiques. She enjoyed crocheting and needle work. Cathie enjoyed driving her Green Camaro and Black Mustang. Above all else, Cathie adored her family and especially enjoyed being a grandma.

Cathie passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025 at her home, in Pleasantville, at the age of 69 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Rick Bertrand and husband, Gene Dawson.

Those left to cherish Cathie’s memory include her sons: Jason (Robbie), Rob (Brandy), Nick (Jen) and Matt (Ashli); 15 grandchildren: Hannah, Ryen and Eli, Drew, Caylie, Addie, Braylon and Ava; Christian, Evan, Gracie and Kameron; Ethan, Bailey and Archer; sister, Jackie (Dave) Manson and many other family members and friends.
